Sad

Sad story, our neighbors hay barn burned last night, the fourth one to burn in the last couple of months in this small community.

  1. Are they suspecting arson? I know it's dry in some areas of the US right now, but four in so small of an area? :( How awful!

  2. They don't seem to think arson, just putting the great big bails up to soon they weigh 1300 pounds each not many small bails anymore

  3. Oh my. that is sad. I don't understand how they could just catch fire all by themselves.

  4. Wet or not totally dried hay can create it's own combustion! The process of drying creates great heat. I have felt it in small bales before. They were probably not completely cured and stacked too close in the barn. Is this one you showed a picture of before?

  5. I'm so sorry to hear...I know this can happen...I wonder what it is about this year that had made it so prominent in the community.

  6. They finally caught the kids that had burned several hundred bales of hay around here. I really hate to think about what the price of beef in the store will be by this spring.
